I always seems to have an affinity for odd little objects and you can, in turn, find them all over my room. From the mason jar of shells on my dresser, to the Cheerwine bottle on my vanity, and to all of the odds and end on my bookcase. At one point in time I even had a few vintage pins, (no not the writing utensil, the kind you pin onto something) but the last time we moved I put them some where and I have no idea where:(
One of my favorite things however is old or fancy keys. I actually only have one and its not that old but its so pretty. Even though I know where it goes to (it came with a dresser that I had) it's nice to imagine where the key could have come from. If you don't know where the key is from you can think about it and realize that it could be from anything. It could be for a secret box, or for a treasure chest, or for an old house that no longer exists bur for some reason the key is still here and it found its way to you.
Keys are much like people in a way. It's like when you see a person who you don't know, you have no idea why the person is where they are and you don't know what they have been though, but much like that key they have a story that from the outside you can't see. You can admire the look of the key and maybe notice some scratches or dings on it just like a person but you don't really know what they have been through.
The difference is that with a key you find most likely that is all you will be ever to know about it where as with people you can learn the story.
So next time you find and old key at a vintage store just take a moment to think about that. Then if you end up doing something with the key like making it into a necklace like I have don't with mine, or really anything you want to do.
Just remember even if you can't see the story, whether it is deathly boring or hilarious, or interesting there still is some kind of story in every key and person.
I hope you enjoy the rest of your Tuesday.
XOXO
